Bet On The Betfair International Handicap

ascot.336x254A large field will assemble to fight it out for the Betfair International Handicap at Ascot on Saturday. Given the relatively large number of participants in this six-furlong race, it is a little bit more difficult to call, but a group of favourites has emerged from the pack, and the odds reflect this. Leading the way in the bookies’ charts is Diesentric, who looked very impressive at Newcastle, but strong pack of competitors will make sure that he will not have it all his own way come Saturday.

Diesentric currently heads the favourites list at this stage of the week, and looked good last time out at Newcastle, but is by no means the only horse to be looking at for the race on Saturday, as the field is lined with winners, both recent and past. Queensbury Rules, joint second favourite at 10/1, finished a close third in the mile Brittannia Handicap at Royal Ascot, and is being closely followed for this one by the punters. Another close loser at Royal Ascot, Dream Tune, who finished second in the Buckingham Palace Handicap, comes in at an interesting 12/1 at this stage.

One to look out for from the midfield is Excellent Guest. The five year old has won twice in the distance at Ascot, including the Victoria Cup two months ago, and finished ninth out of 28 in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot over a mile. Trainer George Margason is keen on the horse putting out a strong run on Saturday. “The Betfair race at Ascot is definitely a target for Excellent Guest. It looked like he was in the right group when he ran in the Royal Hunt Cup last time but he wasn’t, as he had no cover. He was only beaten by three and a half lengths in the end.
