Bet On The Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic

downloadAfter the first day of the lines being open for betting, it looks to be a two-horse race with the $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic at stake on Thursday afternoon. The seven-strong field is headed by the only horses in the field with a victory to their names in their relatively short careers so far: Sheer Style and Unencumbered. Both receiving very similar levels of support, they stand a cut above the rest of the field, with their closest challengers being the Gai Waterhouse-trained Spirit Of Joy and Mick Price’s Geromayo.

Unencumbered, who has the better record of the two favourites with two victories from three career starts, has fared impressively in the Saturday two-year-old races, placing in the only race he did not win, and the Bjorn Baker-trained horse will be competitive again on Thursday afternoon.

Gerry Frazer’s Sheer Style, who will be ridden by Blake Shinn, will also be running in his fourth career race on Thursday, and has finished in the top two in all of his races so far, winning the Bendigo Magic Millions Clockwise Classic, where he managed to hold out the competition despite looking a bit ragged in the final 100 metres. Frazer put Sheer Style’s difficulties in the final stages of that race on the heavy track at Bendigo, and was certain that the firmer surface at Wyong would suit his horse better.

Baker is equally confident in his horse’s chances of claiming his third victory from four, and is looking at Thursday’s race as a way of launching Unencumbered’s season.

‘Ideally we will be going on to the Gold Coast with him but it depends on whether he wins or runs a very good race,’ Baker said. ‘The horse is spot on, I could not be happier with him and I am really looking forward to the Wyong race but you never know with two year olds.’

The wildcard for the race looks to be Tommy. The Angela Davies-trained horse was fifth behind Unencumbered at Kensington in his only run, finishing two and a half lengths behind, but had some trouble in the race and could prove to be a solid runner on the day.

The other runners in the race are Kris Lees’ Datable and the Robert Davies-trained longshot Fly But Fly.
