Bet On The George Ryder Stakes

downloadThe $1 million George Ryder Stakes, the highest purse on offer on Rosehill Guineas Day, and the race just ahead of the feature race of the day on the schedule, is closing in on its final stages of preparation, in what is likely to be a tight race. Leading the books just a day before the event is Chris Waller’s Red Tracer, who will be ridden by Glyn Schofield to the line, just ahead of another Waller runner Boban (My Kingdom Of Fife and New Zealander Sacred Falls complete a strong Waller quartet in contention for the race).

The fact that top three horses currently at the top of the betting lines are all trained by the same trainer seems to suggest that the race has been earmarked by Waller as one to win, and you can see why, with the $1 in prize money up for grabs for the 1500-metre race. Of this trio, it will be interesting, and difficult, to pick a winner.

Giving Red Tracer an advantage in the race, perhaps, is the superior wet weather form shown by him in recent times, winning a Group 2 over 1300 metres on the same track, followed by a good third in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes at Randwick over 1300 metres. The horse has had an ideal preparation, and may be the one that Waller believes to be his best opportunity from his four runners to take home the prize.

Boban, however, has been in strong form himself, winning the 1600-metre Group 1 Chipping Norton Warwick Farm not too long ago, to supplement and already strong season, and with important races in the near future for the horse, a strong showing here will be an important signal for the horse and for Waller going forward.

The chasing pack offers some interesting opportunities as well, with Gordon Lord Brown, Tom Hogan’s Irish Group 1 winner, as well as El Roca and Eurozone, second and third respectively in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas, also in the mix.
