Bet On The Investec Coronation Cup

SNA wins Coro Cup (580 x 350) 8500689[1]St Nicholas Abbey is primed to take a hat trick of triumphs at the Investec Coronation Cup this weekend, as the race, part of the Epsom Derby Festival, possibly sees its first three-time champion over 100 years since its first running. The six year old looks to be the leading favourite, with former Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden probably his closest rival for the honours.

St Nicholas Abbey 2/5

Dunaden 3/1

Joshua Tree 10/1

Chamonix 33/1

Chapter Seven 100/1

If St Nicholas Abbey is looking for his third successive victory in the race, his trainer Aidan O’Brien, has already achieved the feat. O’Brien, with St Nicholas Abbey in 2011 and 2012, also trained Fame And Glory in 2010, and is searching for his seventh win at the meeting, which will make his the leading trainer in the long history of the race.

And the odds on him doing so look very good, with St Nicholas Abbey having won five of his last six, and rightfully the short-priced favourite for the race. He looked in great form in winning the Dubai Sheema Classic and favours the soft turf that Epsom will throw at him.

French horse Dunaden, winner of the 2011 Melbourne Cup, and has since been beaten. But, although the formbook suggests that he will be racing for second place behind St Nicholas Abbey, his stamina is not to be completely discarded, and it would not be an impossibility for him to win the race. Though he starts very much as the second favourite.

Joshua tree is a proven performer as well, and has twice won the Group 1 Canadian International at Woodbine, and shouldn’t be completely overlooked for the race. Also in the field, Chapter Seven, as the odds and form reflect, will have a big struggle in the race, with Chamonix, at 33/1, likely to be leading out St Nicholas Abbey to his third victory at Epsom.
